About St Joseph the Worker

A church for the community. A church for you. A church to the glory of God

Musicians and parishioners during the consecration of the church.

We are a lively and varied community at St. Joseph’s, and we welcome everyone! At  St. Joseph’s you will find arms wide open, the arms of a community that strives to proclaim the gospel and live it. We want to support those who are outward looking and those looking for quiet and solace; those who have a strong faith and those who feel lost and are seeking wisdom.

In our parish you will find the experienced Christian sitting next to the relatively new to the faith, the young family and the retired couple, students and professionals all coming together for the same purpose: to worship God, to encounter Jesus and to live life to the full.

Preparing to do the readings at Mass

St. Joseph the Worker is a relatively new parish, created in 1981 to serve the area of Canley. This community is made up of both residents in the area and students from nearby Warwick University.

This area of Canley has undergone massive changes since the founding of the parish, but our commitment to the residents remains unchanged. The parishioners are both from the area and further afield, and many of them travel from other parts of the city to be part of the community.

Everybody is welcome to come and worship here, committed Christians who are seeking to deepen their relationship with Christ,  those who have doubts, little or no religious experience, or are from other Christian denominations. We also welcome anyone who would like to learn more about Christianity – please do not be afraid to come in and see if you would like to join us.

We are here for the university students too…

With the recent building of extensive student accommodation nearby, the parish is preparing to provide them with the spiritual nourishment and the opportunity to grow in faith and love during their time at university.

Deacon David is not only the parish deacon at St Joseph, but also the chaplain to the Catholic community at Warwick University, and he regularly visits the Chaplaincy and organises the Masses there on Sundays. For more information, please visit the section of the chaplaincy in this website.
